On CT side there are two M4s, and the choice between them is personal. Most players end up with a favourite, and that’s the one worth skinning first, because it’s the rifle you’ll be looking at for most of every CT half. Here’s a quick look at how the two differ, then skin picks for each, then a few ways to tie them into the rest of your kit.
The rifles in brief
| M4A4 | M4A1-S | |
|---|---|---|
| Magazine | Larger (30 rounds) | Smaller (20 rounds) |
| Sound | Loud, unsuppressed | Suppressed |
| Feel | Longer sprays, suits aggressive play | Rewards controlled taps and short bursts |
| Silhouette | Chunky, boxy frame | Slimmer, with a long suppressor |
Neither is strictly better. If you like holding angles and tapping heads, the M4A1-S tends to feel natural; if you like taking fights with plenty of ammo in reserve, the M4A4 does. Pick the rifle first, then the skin.
M4A4 picks
- M4A4 | Howl: the only Contraband weapon skin in the game, with a fiery wolf design. A collector’s piece first, a rifle second.
- M4A4 | Asiimov: the white, orange and black family look, big and bold on the M4A4’s boxy frame.
- M4A4 | Neo-Noir: comic-noir artwork that matches the AWP and USP-S versions if you like a themed set.
- M4A4 | The Emperor: a regal portrait in rich colours. The colony has a soft spot for anything called Emperor, for obvious reasons.
M4A1-S picks
- M4A1-S | Printstream: pearl white with black graphic detail. Clean and modern, and it pairs with the Desert Eagle and USP-S Printstreams.
- M4A1-S | Hyper Beast: neon creature art in the same style as the AWP Hyper Beast.
- M4A1-S | Golden Coil: black and gold coils with a polished, jewellery-like feel.
- M4A1-S | Bright Water: cool blues and teals that suit a winter-themed kit, and an easy way into the Cold Storage look.
Design matters a little differently on each rifle. The M4A4’s big, flat sides show off large artwork like the Howl or Asiimov, while the M4A1-S’s slimmer body and long suppressor favour finishes with clean lines and strong contrast, such as Printstream or Golden Coil. Neither rule is absolute, but it’s a useful way to narrow a long list.
Matching sets across your loadout
Several finishes exist on more than one weapon, which makes themed loadouts easy to plan:
- Neo-Noir: M4A4, AWP and USP-S.
- Asiimov: M4A4, AWP and AK-47.
- Printstream: M4A1-S, USP-S and Desert Eagle.
- Hyper Beast: M4A1-S and AWP.
How to choose
- Skin the rifle you actually buy. A beautiful finish on a gun you never pick up is just a museum piece.
- Check the exact float in the Ice Core Lab before you commit; two Field-Tested copies can look quite different.
- Lay out the combination in the Loadout builder on the home page to see how it sits with your AWP and pistols.
Whichever M4 you choose, delivery works the same: our bot sends the exact item by Steam trade offer, same float and seed, and we only need your trade URL. If we can’t deliver, you get a full refund.
