Gloves in CS2: types, finishes and float ranges

Guides · 2 min read

Gloves are on screen more than any other item you own. Every rifle, every pistol, every grenade, every knife inspect: your hands are in frame. That makes gloves one of the most noticeable upgrades in CS2, and one of the trickier ones to buy well.

The basics

  • Gloves are ★ rare special items, like knives, and they come from cases.
  • They never come in StatTrak™ or Souvenir versions.
  • You can equip different gloves for the T side and the CT side.
  • Every pair has a float and a pattern seed, just like any other skin.

Float ranges and why Factory New is rare

Most glove finishes can only exist between 0.06 and 0.80. The Factory New band ends at 0.07, so a Factory New pair has to land in the thin slice between 0.06 and 0.07. That’s why Factory New gloves are rare and usually carry a big premium. Minimal Wear (0.07–0.15) is the realistic clean option, and low Field-Tested often looks better than the label suggests.

  • Minimal Wear: crisp colors with light marks you mostly notice up close.
  • Low Field-Tested: often the sweet spot for value; the wear shows mainly on close inspection.
  • High Field-Tested and Well-Worn: fading and scuffs start to show in first person.
  • Battle-Scarred: heavy wear. It can suit leather and camo finishes, but it’s harsh on bright colors.

Patterns on gloves

The seed matters less on most gloves than on knives, but there are exceptions. On finishes like Crimson Web, Fade, Marble Fade and Case Hardened, the seed decides what lands on the back of the hand, which is the part you see most in first person. For those, check the seed and look at screenshots of the back of the glove.

Buying tips

  • Pick a finish you won’t tire of. You’ll see it on every weapon, every round.
  • Pair it with your knife. Use the loadout builder to see gloves and knife together before buying either.
  • Don’t overpay for the label. A low Minimal Wear and a high Factory New can look extremely close in game.
  • Read the float, not the wear name. Every PenguinSkins listing shows the exact float and pattern seed.
  • Going for a winter look? Browse the Cold Storage shelf for real snow and ice finishes.

Penguins, for the record, don’t need gloves. We asked. They looked at us like we’d forgotten how flippers work.
