Your Steam trade URL: where it is and how to reset it

Safety · 2 min read

To send you a skin, our bot needs exactly one piece of information: your Steam trade URL. Not your login, not your password, not a code from your phone. This note shows where the link lives, what it does, and how to replace it when you need to.

What a trade URL is

A trade URL is a personal link that lets someone send you a trade offer even if you are not Steam friends. It looks like this:

https://steamcommunity.com/tradeoffer/new/?partner=…&token=…

The partner number identifies your account, and the token is the part that makes the link yours to hand out or withdraw. It helps to be clear about its limits:

  • It can let someone propose a trade to you.
  • It cannot take items from you. Every offer still needs you to accept it and, with the Mobile Authenticator, to confirm it in the Steam app.
  • It cannot be used to sign in to your account.

Where to find it

On the Steam website or in the Steam desktop client:

  • Open your Inventory.
  • Click Trade Offers.
  • Click Who can send me trade offers?
  • Find the Trade URL section and copy the whole link.

Copy everything from https to the last character of the token. A half-copied link is like half a fish: technically something, practically useless.

Saving it at the station

Paste the link into Base camp → Trade URL in your PenguinSkins account. From then on it is pre-filled at checkout, so you do not have to dig it out of Steam for every order. You can also paste it directly at checkout if you prefer.

When and how to reset it

Because anyone who has your trade URL can send you offers, you may want a fresh one if:

  • You have posted it publicly, for example on a forum or in a profile.
  • You are receiving unwanted or suspicious trade offers.
  • You have used many trading sites and want a clean start.

To reset it, go back to Who can send me trade offers? and click Create new URL. Steam generates a new link, and the old one stops working. Anyone holding the old link can no longer use it to send you offers.

After a reset: update Base camp

This is the step people forget. When you create a new URL, every site that stored the old one, the station included, is now holding a dead link. Paste the new link into Base camp → Trade URL before your next order.

If you reset your link while an order is in progress, write to support@penguinskins.com via the Contacts page with your order number, so the colony can check the delivery against the right address.

One last reminder: the trade URL is safe to share with the store, and it is the only thing we need. If anyone asks for your password, Steam Guard codes or API key in the name of PenguinSkins, it is not us.
